What Is It and Why It Should Be Important To You And Your Pet?

Each month at Royal York Animal Hospital we focus on a specific area in Veterinary Medicine for our blogs.

This month, October, the awareness is about AAHA accreditation  (American Animal Hospital Association) and what that means to you  when choosing a veterinary hospital in North America and locally in Etobicoke or Toronto, Ontario .

The American Animal Hospital Association (A.A.H.A.) was founded in 1933 and one of its goals is to provide VOLUNTARY accreditation to companion animal hospitals.  These  standards are above and beyond what all Veterinary Hospitals need to pass for accreditation from their provincial or state.  The below is an excerpt from AAHA’s website www.healthypet.com that says it best:

“Why Standards are Important”

The American Animal Hospital Association is the only organization that accredits small animal hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada.  AAHA-accredited hospitals, voluntarily choose to be evaluated on 900 standards. Veterinary hospitals accredited by AAHA must demonstrate an exceptional level of medical care and client service and they are re-evaluated every three years to make sure they are keeping up with industry updates.

Veterinary practices choose to become AAHA-accredited for a myriad of reasons, including the desire to improve practice operations and team building, update their skills, enhance their credibility with clients and strive for continuous improvement. Approximately 3,200 veterinary hospitals in the United States and Canada have made a commitment to meeting the highest standards of veterinary care.

Locate an AAHA Accredited Hospital in Etobicoke?

RYAH became AAHA accredited in the year 2000:  When we build our new facility behind our old veterinary hospital at 4222 Dundas St. West in Etobicoke,  Royal York Animal Hospital earned the AAHA accreditation.  We took special care when designing the new building; in the new equipment we purchased and the work flow so that we would meet the stringent facility standards of AAHA.  As well, all our veterinarians and staff have individually and together made the commitment to meet the highest standards of pet care.

We believe our AAHA designation helps keep us on the leading edge of veterinary medicine and we are focused on continuous improvement to assure we can offer the quality and range of services you expect and deserve for your pet.
